The heartbroken father of Aylan Kurdi today vowed to prove that he is not a people smuggler – by tracking down the trafficker who led his wife and two young sons to their deaths.
Little Aylan, three, became the tragic face of Europe’s migrant crisis when the shocking photo of his lifeless body washed up on the beach in Kos made headlines around the world.
In the aftermath and global revulsion to the tragedy, an Iraqi mother whose two sons also drowned when the packed dinghy sank, accused Aylan’s father, Abdullah Kurdi, of being a ‘people smuggler’ and of driving the boat.
Zainab Abbas and her husband Ahmed Hadi Jawwad said Mr Kurdi had been steering and asked them not to ‘dob him in’ when it sank.
Multiple people have now come forward to say he was the one actually piloting the boat from the start.
