An annual pillow fight for freshmen at the U.S. Military Academy turned into a bloody brawl that left 24 cadets with concussions and six others injured, according to reports.

West Point officials confirmed the melee with The New York Times on Thursday, two weeks after the Aug. 20 “plebe pillow fight” for the class of 2019, the newspaper reported.

A video of the fight posted on YouTube last month shows the cadets streaming into a campus quad and bashing each other. Some of the cadets stuffed hard objects, apparently their helmets, into the pillow cases and knocked their comrades unconscious, according to the Times.[…]

“1200 freshmen in one area, knock outs, broken noses, concussions, blood, blood, and more blood!,” one man wrote on Twitter. “Pretty much sums up our plebe pillow fight!” The Twitter user also posted a photo of a man wearing an Army helmet and armor and holding up a bloody pillow case.

He wrote later, “CASUALTY UPDATE: 12 of my fellow classmates have been sent to the hospital from our plebe pillow fight. I am not even kidding…”
