President Barack Obama plans to travel to New Orleans on Aug. 27 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the White House announced Wednesday.

The schedule calls for Obama to travel to several New Orleans neighborhoods with Mayor Mitch Landrieu to meet with residents, including youths, who have rebuilt their lives over the past 10 years.

The president also is expected to deliver remarks on the region’s rebirth, talking about what’s possible when citizens, city and corporate leaders work together to lift their communities and rebuild in ways that make them more innovative and positioned for economic growth.

Obama will be joined by Craig Fugate, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, who has coordinated much of the $120 billion in federal Katrina assistance.
