Straight Outta Compton opened Friday in more than 2700 theaters nationwide. The movie is projects to make over $50 million in it’s opening weekend, according to some analysts.
Despite the projected success, the studio that made the movie, Universal Pictures is paying for extra security in some theaters.
Why? Well that depends on who you ask? Law enforecement officers told CBS 6, the extra security is mainly for the volume of people they expect, and to ensure their safety. Bow Tie theater on the Boulevard said they normally add extra police for movies expecting to draw a large crowd.
Some of those attending the film Friday said they don’t necessarily buy that thought. They believe the subject of the movie, the group that it’s about N.W.A, and race play a part.
Moviegoer Jaleesa Blocker said, “It’s was N.W.A of course. If you know anything about what the story is all about, clearly, yeah!”
Hassan, who bought tickets at Bow Tie said, “for them to be here because a black movie is out today, you know, it just pissed me off. It did because when you watch all over the news no black people shoot up theaters.”
