ST. LOUIS – Charges have been filed against a man in relation to a shooting that injured a police officer in the Central West End Tuesday morning.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office have charged 27-year-old Edward Davis with first degree assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action. A second 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody after turning himself in Wednesday; he has not yet been charged.
The shooting occurred around 4:40 Tuesday morning near Coffee Cartel on the 30 block of Maryland Avenue. According to police, the 39-year-old sergeant was sitting in his personal car, in full uniform, when he noticed three suspects walking down the street. A short time later, a silver vehicle occupied by the three suspects, as well as another, pulled up directly in front of the Sgt.’s vehicle.

A man wearing a black bandanna exited the passenger side of the vehicle and opened fire on the Sgt., striking him in the chest. The Sgt. returned fire as the shooter fled on foot and the vehicle drove away.
