The woman, Brittany ‘Bree’ Newsome, who is from Raleigh, North Carolina, not South Carolina was given bail of $3000 and was told that she was free to leave the state once she made bail. James Tyson, a white man who was arrested with her, was also given a $3000 bail. They were both charged with defacing a monument and face 3 years in jail and a possible $5000 fine.

Michael Moore offered to pay her bail:

But Black Lives Matter, under the auspices of Credo, have set up a fund for Newsome and Tyson at Indie Go Go. They make it very clear they are paying their bail with the money and that they are also fundraising for future such illegal acts. Such solicitations are supposed to be against the terms of service of Indie Go Go, yet the account at last check was still up and had already raised over $74,000. So if you feel so inclined, please let them know how you feel about the support for criminal action.

The Confederate flag is back up in South Carolina in time for a pro Confederate flag rally at the capitol. Activists will have to take action again and again to bring down these flags.
