Detroit police have issued arrest warrants for Shepard Fairey, the artist best known for making that iconic “HOPE” image for President Obama‘s 2008 campaign.
According to The Wall Street Journal, police believe Fairey is responsible for putting up posters on several buildings that they say are incredibly difficult to remove.
For putting up the unauthorized posters, Fairey is being charged with malicious destruction of a building.
Fairey was invited to Detroit last month to paint a giant mural for Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert––and by giant I mean 18 stories high––but it’s other work he did around town during that time that’s come under scrutiny.
