They were a diverse group drawn together by their Christian faith — ministers and mothers, a revered politician and a recent college grad.

The nine victims killed in the Mother Emanuel AME Church massacre represented a wide cross-section of the historic South Carolina city of Charleston.

They were young and old, ranging in age from 26 to 87. There was a high school speech therapist and a librarian, a young barber and a longtime state senator.
