The Affordable Care Act would never have passed without the support of Catholic hospitals, President Obama said Tuesday in a major victory lap speech praising his healthcare law and slamming opponents of it.
“I’m here today to say thank you for your tireless efforts to make health reform a reality,” Obama told the Catholic Health Association. “Without your moral force, we would not have succeeded.” […]
Obama also sharply rebuked Republicans for continuing to oppose the law, more than five years into its implementation. The second full year of enrollment in the new insurance marketplaces ended this spring and nearly all of the law’s major pieces are in place.
“There’s something deeply cynical about constant efforts to roll back progress,” Obama said. “I understand folks being worried before the law was passed and there wasn’t a reality there to examine. But once you see folks having healthcare, you’d think it’d be time to move on.”
