Hundreds gathered in Davenport on Friday to hear from a string of presidential candidates.
Some now officially kicking off their campaigns in the Hawkeye State, including U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, and the grassroots fan base he’s already building.
Just days into his presidential campaign, and Sanders knows how to bring a crowd.
“What we have got to do is to create an economy that works for all of us, not just the top 1 percent,” Sanders says.
On Thursday, more than 500 people packed the Rogalski Center at Saint Ambrose University.
They were cheering as the Vermont senator attacked big business, and billionaires.
“The issue of wealth and income inequality is the great moral issue of our time, the great economic issue of our time,” he declared.
Sanders is seeking the Democratic nomination, but has long been a political independent.
“Climate change is real. It is caused by human activity. It is already bringing devastation to parts of America and throughout the world,” he said.
He also touted plans for tuition-free college, and universal healthcare.
