Who could think that a baseball team would disallow such a statement as controversial? But the Cardinals wimp out under pressure…
Sports website Deadspin took the St. Louis Cardinals mascot Fredbird to task this week for posing for a photo while holding a sign that said “police lives matter” in a story titled “Your Racist Uncle Will Love This Picture of The Cardinals’ Mascot.”
The article said Fredbird “would be the one sports mascot to attend an event hosted by the St. Louis Police department and hold up a ‘Police Lives Matter’ sign.”
Hinting that any defense of the Cardinals would be “crypto-racist,” Deadspin went on to say they emailed the Cardinals to ask what was required to get Fredbird to attend an event.
What they didn’t do, apparently, was email anyone to ask about the actual circumstances surrounding that specific photo.
Deadspin was not only too unconcerned with facts to get the actual situation right, they actually compared the sign to being pro-KKK or pro ISIS, and suggested they could hire Fredbird to say “Bush did 9/11”.
