President Obama astonishingly claims that Assad has given up chemical weapons, that they “have been eliminated”.
First, apparently Obama has decided to just ignore months of reports and discussions by his own administration and other officials about the finding and use of those chemical weapons that, yes, are still there. He also apparently hasn’t spoken to U.S. officials or John Kerry who supposedly was been discussing the use of those weapons with the Russians on Tuesday.
U.S. officials said that the response to Assad’s chemical weapons is still being debated within the administration and that their use against civilians was part of discussions between Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian officials Tuesday in Moscow.
The officials said that the Assad regime was informed of the discovery and subsequently barred OPCW inspectors from returning to the facility. OPCW spokesman Peter Sawczak declined to comment on the chemical weapons discoveries but said that no final determination had been made.
I guess they can stop the discussions, President Obama has declared success, therefore evidence does not exist…
Second, did Obama ever take any history classes ever? Chlorine is not “historically considered” a chemical weapon? Hello, World War 1? Did you miss that? Chlorine gas was first used as a weapon of war in World War 1, it was one of the reasons for the attempt to ban chemical weapons use during war. More recently, in addition to Syria, chlorine gas was used in Iraq and by ISIS, most recently against the Kurds in January in an attack near Mosul.

Here’s Kerry’s statement that apparently Obama missed, about an attack using chlorine in March:
