Video captured a black man verbally accosting FERGUSON playwright Phelim McAleer after viewing a recent showing of the play in Los Angeles.
“We’ve got a professional theater here, and then we have the likes of you come in with this kind of sh*t,” the man said.
McAleer’s play is Verbatim Theatre; the entire show is the literal wording of the Ferguson Grand Jury testimony in the case of the shooting death of Michael Brown. But to this audience member, McAleer’s “agenda” and “opinion” was clear as he accused the play of cherry-picking from the testimony.
The man also had a problem that McAleer is Irish and is trying to add his voice to an apparently black-only issue. He tells McAleer that he was once in Dublin in 1980 when the city was under threat and witnessed “Irishmen dying for something important.” He then said, “I would’ve never been so presumptuous as to think that I could do something to illuminate what was going on.”
