When it came to perspective on the media’s treatment of Hillary Clinton’s campaign launch, CNN turned to someone who knows a thing about the power of the press, former Rep. Anthony Weiner.

“I kind of like the idea to some degree that we don’t see a campaign that is entirely doing exactly the things you’d expect them to do,” the former New York congressman told host Brian Stelter on Sunday’s edition of CNN’s “Reliable Sources.”

“Right now, I think there’s much more cynicism around seeing these staged photographs than there is anything else,” he said.

Stelter introduced Weiner as “Jon Stewart’s ex-roommate” but he is, of course, better known for other things: Weiner resigned from office in June 2011 amid a scandal about sexually explicit pictures he sent out on social media. His wife, Huma Abedin, is a longtime Clinton staffer.

Talking of “the run-up to the run-up to the run-up of her announcement,” Weiner said he thought the media itself was much more focused on Clinton’s launch last Sunday than the nation as a whole.

“I’m sure that almost no one was staring at their screen watching the Twitter feed and refreshing the Twitter feed on Hillary Clinton.com besides people who are deep insiders like you and me,” he said to his CNN host.
