House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) undermined Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) in his fight over a human trafficking bill by backing similar restrictions of taxpayer funding for abortion on legislation pertaining to Medicaid reimbursements for doctors.
Pelosi backed an agreement stipulating that the money can’t be used for abortions, which Reid’s team criticized. “Senator Reid sees this codification of the Hyde amendment as part of a systematic effort by Republicans to expand its scope,” spokesman Adam Jentleson said, per the Associated Press.
