Yesterday, the lawyer for Ferguson cop shooter suspect, Jeffrey Williams, accused police of beating him after his arrest, even saying he had been pistol-whipped.
[Lawyer, Jerryl T.] Christmas said Williams, 20, was scared and in a “tremendous amount of pain,” having allegedly been pistol-whipped before being questioned by detectives.
“I think under those circumstances he would have said anything,” Christmas said. “Anytime someone is questioned without counsel and then I see that kind of bruising, then I’m suspicious about any statements that he may have voluntarily given.”
The lawyer said the injuries can be seen in the jail mug shot of his client.
“He had bruising … you see the redness on the right side of his face,” Christmas said. “I don’t see how they are denying it, it’s right there on their own mug shot.”
However, there are a few problems with the lawyer’s story and the retraction of the confession.
First, that his client also confessed to Bishop Derrick Robinson. Williams told Robinson that he had had a confrontation and/or been robbed by another protester when he was at the protest earlier in the evening, and that he came back to get back and shoot at the person/s involved. This was the same story Williams also told the police.
Second, Fox covered a “brawl” or fight primarily between two protesters earlier in the evening. The first video above show a close up of the two protesters, the smaller clearly getting the worst of it in the fight and being hit in the face several times, including a particularly good blow to the side of the face, that seems to match the most prominent mark on Williams right cheek.
This second video has a clearer shot of the body and the face of the smaller protester:
If you looked at his Facebook, you can see that this seems to be Jeff Williams. Although his Facebook has now been taken off line, as has the Facebook of his girlfriend, there are still pictures that people were able to grab before they were gone.
Here is a picture of Williams with his girlfriend at the baby shower on March 1 for their coming son. You can also see in the videos Williams’ distinctive haircut, a similar hat to one that he wears, which comes off during the fight, and a similar blue shirt/jacket to one that he wears here.
The police also have evidence of him firing from his car at the scene and have collected the gun from him that appears to match the bullet casings found at the shooting.
This fight was a big brawl, broken up by someone who looks like an organizer, who appears to have been clocked in the chin for his trouble. So both the organizer, the big guy in the gray who hit him, the man who had a video camera trained at one point on his face in the video, as well as the Fox folks should all be able to identify him as being involved in the fight.
Which sort of begs the question. Why did the protesters lie and say that he wasn’t a protester, when not only had he been there that day, but he had been there in a quite noticeable fight? One can only conclude that they like the lawyer are doing what they can to muddy the waters.
