St. Louis County Police have confirmed to FOX 2 that the suspected shooter of two police officers early Thursday morning outside of the Ferguson police department is in custody.
The two officers were shot just after midnight, as many protestors were headed home following a night of protests after the resignation of the city’s police chief.

St. Louis County officials will hold a press briefing at 1:30 pm CT on the arrest, according to the statement. A St. Louis County police official was not immediately available to provide further comment.
Law enforcement sources told The Washington Post that a local man was arrested in the late morning on Sunday and that the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered.
Here’s a link with live stream of the press conference, about to begin.
Details from prosecutor Bob McCulloch:
Jeffrey Williams, 20 years old, charged with three counts, including assault in first degree. Weapon recovered and has acknowledged his part in firing the shots. Investigation still ongoing, want people with any information to contact police.
May NOT have been firing at officers, according to what Williams said, he claims he had a dispute with another person/people who were there. But investigation is going on and that may not be true. Some matches and some doesn’t, but enough to know that he was involved in firing shots. May be other people, investigation still ongoing. But may have been shooting at police.
He was a protester, was out there earlier that night and was participant in other demonstrations. Williams is local man.
May have been other people who participated in this, we are looking at this now.
He was on probation, and actually had a warrant out for his arrest.
Gun was handgun, 40 caliber.
Jeffrey Williams is African-American.
