Bringing civility and partisanship back to congress.

It’s been a chippy week at the U.S. Capitol, with Republicans and Democrats sniping back and forth over the impending lapse of funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
While a stopgap resolution appeared to be in sight late Thursday, the tensions spilled out on the House floor after 7 p.m. as the second-ranking leaders for each party sparred over the funding clash.
As Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) discussed the scheduling of Friday’s votes, Hoyer criticized Republicans for leaving the department “twisting in the wind” — prompting groans from the GOP side of the aisle and prompting McCarthy, who had the floor, to reclaim his time.
Hoyer’s retort? “You coward,” he said, captured on a C-SPAN broadcast.
