Hillary Clinton asked Elizabeth Warren for policy ideas and suggestions during a one-on-one meeting in December, but did not ask the Massachusetts senator to consider endorsing her likely presidential candidacy, the New York Times reported Tuesday.
A Democrat briefed on the meeting — which came at Clinton’s invitation — called it “cordial and productive,” the Times wrote. The report said Clinton, the former secretary of state and former New York senator, has been seeking advice from a range of scholars and advocates.
As the Times notes, the meeting at Clinton’s Washington home came as Warren’s clout has become increasingly evident. Shortly after the midterm elections in November, she was appointed to a Senate Democratic leadership role. Liberal groups are also trying to draft her into the 2016 presidential race. Warren has insisted she isn’t running for president.
