Columbus, Ohio dodged a bullet. The DNC doesn’t pay their bills.

The Democratic National Committee selected Philadelphia today to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

“After much buildup and very careful consideration over which city will host our 2016 Democratic National Convention, I’m pleased to announce that we’ll nominate the next president of the United States in Philadelphia – the City of Brotherly Love,” Democratic Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in an email to supporters.

Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Columbus were the finalists after a months-long national search for a convention site that involved repeated visits to all three cities and intense lobbying.

The Columbus team pitched the proximity of the convention hubs – with Nationwide and the Greater Columbus Convention Center only a block apart, next to major hotels and amenities Downtown and in the Short North – as well as the relative ease of getting around Ohio’s largest city. Ohio Stadium also was listed as a possibility for the Democratic nominee’s acceptance speech, and Ohio State dorms as a low-cost option for as many as 10,000 party volunteers, staffers and others.Columbus, which had also bid for the 2016 Republican National Convention before being eliminated early last year, had rallied around the prospect of hosting the Democrats.[…]

Ohio, however, will host a major party convention in 2016: The Republicans last year selected Cleveland as the site of its national gathering next year.2016 Republican National Convention.
