Congress

Must be nice to have this luxury.

Via Capitol City Project:

Members of Congress and their staff seemed to spend a lot of time off Capitol Hill jet setting around the world. So much so that in total, an astounding 2,000 privately funded trips were taken — and this was just in 2014 alone.

Throughout the course of the year, congressional members and their staff combined to hit 50 different countries and spent an astounding $5.1 million.

Outside of travel within the United States, the top 10 most visited countries were Israel, Turkey, Japan, Belgium, Columbia, Italy, Cuba, Vatican City, France and Germany — in that order.

Here’s a breakdown of the amount of trips taken and their costs according to data from Legistorm.

Most visited countries:

1. Israel : 122 trips costing $1,504,875

2. Turkey : 67 trips costing $375,104

3. Japan : 40 trips costing $477,244
