Mexico enforcing the immigration laws, the Americans won’t.

Life just got tougher for Ruben Galvan, an American citizen who is back behind bars in the United States after escaping from a U.S. federal prison last year and fleeing to Mexico.

Galvan, 34, was flown to Houston and into the arms of waiting deputy U.S. marshals this week after being kicked out of Mexico for being an undocumented immigrant.

“Looking over your shoulder every day in another country is no way to live,” said Gary Blankinship, the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Texas. “Ruben Galvan learned what many escapees before him have learned: we will never give up. We will never stop looking for you. Justice will prevail.”

Galvan had been convicted of methamphetamine charges in Dallas back in 2011 and was serving 10 years in the El Reno, Okla. U.S. Bureau of Prisons camp when he went missing last year.

Inmates told authorities he’d fled with his wife, according to court papers. There are no fences at the facility, so Galvan could have literally walked away. He was discovered to have gone missing during a prisoner count.
