President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rebuked France on Wednesday for its failure to prevent a deadly attack against a French magazine, questioning why French intelligence hadn’t put the Paris attackers under surveillance after they served their prison sentences.

In his remarks during an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in İstanbul, Erdoğan mentioned the terrorist attack on the French magazine and underlined that the Paris attackers are French citizens had served time in prison. […]

During his address, Erdoğan also discussed Charlie Hebdo. He said the magazine’s cartoons featuring Prophet Muhammad were a provocation and argued with the belief that the cartoons depicting the Prophet should be regarded within the realm of freedom of thought.

“Now, the incident in France … As you know, this magazine had elements of provocation in its cartoons, which were an insult against our dear Prophet. No one can regard this within the scope of freedom of thought. No one has the right to attack a leader, a guide of a religion. This has no place within freedom of thought,” Erdoğan said.
