In 2012, for the first time in history, a majority of those in Congress were millionaires. During the time leading up to this historic congressional feat, Americans’ wages have been going in the opposite direction– plummeting 23 percent since 2008.
According to a report by the United States Conference of Mayors, the average job pays 23 percent less than it did before the 2008 recession. A job that once paid $61,637 in 2008 paid $47,171 per year in 2014. However, this figure is still higher than the average yearly salary in the United States. A majority of households in metro areas, or 73 percent, earn salaries less than $35,000 per year.
Despite the dip in wages for American workers, those in Congress continue to do quite well for themselves — even seeing an increase in their net worth…
