What is with Islamists and conspiracy theories?

TEHRAN (ISNA) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the US killed al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden for Obama re-election.

“Bin Laden had not been killed longtime ago. I have accurate information that bin Laden had been held by American military from long time ago. They made him sick and he was sick on the day he was killed by Americans,” he said in a televised speech on Sunday night.

“What the US President did aimed at domestic political gain. In Other words, they killed him for Obama’s election and now they are seeking to replace him with someone else. Therefore, Americans are pursuing the issue to find a successor for bin Laden,” Ahmadinejad continued.

Media reports claimed that bin Laden was shot dead on May 2 in a US commando raid on a heavily fortified compound near Islamabad, Pakistan.

Meanwhile, regarding recent regional developments, he said, “complicated regional developments are being resolved, but we should not permit popular uprisings be managed by others.”

Ahmadinejad further said that, “we have always declared that we are ready for cooperation under fair circumstance and respect.”
