When the police turned their back on Mayor de Blasio last weekend, de Blasio’s minions on the left were quick to jump all over them, even in the wake of the killings. I think I haven’t seen such manic response since Hugo Chavez declared everything was free at stores he wanted to destroy.
What had de Blasio done, they said, to earn such ire? Other then perhaps say that his son needed to take ‘special care’ when dealing with the police? How dare these ‘rude’ police do this at a funeral(nevermind that it was for their brother officer who they felt was dead in part because of de Blasio’s actions).
Read on, and this is only a partial list…

So it’s come to this: On the weekend New York City buries another of its Finest, Detective Wenjian Liu, the focus is on the mayor — and whether police officers will again turn their backs on him.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton calls the gesture “inappropriate.” Peter King, the Republican congressman from Long Island, doesn’t like it either, but because it is “creating sympathy” for the mayor.
Even before the back-turnings, Cardinal Timothy Dolan was saying it’s “unfair and counterproductive to dismiss our mayor and other leaders as enemies of the police.”
Let’s stipulate up front that the man responsible for the murders of Officers Liu and Rafael Ramos is not the mayor but the nut who pulled the trigger. Let’s stipulate too that the mayor does not have blood on his hands.
Let’s do so, however, while acknowledging that the murders have illuminated the squalid assumptions behind so much of Bill de Blasio’s rhetoric about police.
Long before Officers Liu and Ramos were gunned down on that Brooklyn street corner, de Blasio had run his campaign for mayor based on calumny: that the NYPD is a racist police force. This was what de Blasio meant when he campaigned against “an abusive stop-and-frisk policy that targeted communities of color.” In other words, we weren’t talking about a few bad apples. We were talking about an entire force out to get people of color.
The NYPD is perhaps the most diverse police department in the world. The Garner case actually shows that, not only having the principal officer concerned, who was white, but other officers of varying races, including the supervising sergeant, who was a black female.
There was nothing in the case that indicated race had anything to do with anything, whatever else you might think about how it was handled. Even the Garner family said it wasn’t about race, Garner’s mother, wife and daughter Erica all agreed.
Yet to the Mayor, it was time to cater to race huckster Al Sharpton. Indeed, before the police officers were killed, many in NYC joked that it was the Mayor who had to go to Sharpton to get approval for actions.
De Blasio also said in the context of talking about the Garner case that we are dealing with “centuries of racism”. That was the thing that made many cops just shake their heads in disbelief. Read his statements at that link. Rather than say the truth, that this is a rare event, he specifically says it isn’t, and then he encourages the protests to continue, saying actions for justice are only working “because the people are demanding it”.
Turning every police officer, or even most, into a racist is as evil as turning every black man, or even most, into a criminal.
Stop it. Stop it now.
