Of all the events that took place in 2014, the Ferguson grand jury decision to eschew indicting Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown was the most-mentioned news event on Twitter.

Echelon Insights, a market research and data analytics company, combed through 184.5 million Twitter mentions of various news events and shared the results online in its The Year in News.

The results, shown below, indicate that the initial Ferguson shooting and the grand jury decision months later, were the biggest news events on Twitter. The closest runners-up would be President Obama’s State of the Union, the Sterling/Clippers controversy, and the 2014 midterms.
