DREXEL HILL, Pa. (WPVI) — One man is dead following a officer involved shooting in Drexel Hill, Delaware County Tuesday night.

Police say the man had posted rants on YouTube, threatening to kill police officers and FBI agents. They say they were attempting to apprehend the man when the deadly incident unfolded.

It happened around 4:35 p.m. at the intersection of Garrett Road and Shadeland Avenue.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood explains that it all started after police learned of the online threats.

Police obtained an arrest warrant and went to a home in Clifton where the man was observed leaving the scene.

They followed him into Drexel Hill, eventually attempting to stop him at Garrett Road and Shadeland Avenue.

According to Chitwood, “They go to stop him. He tried to run down a couple cops. He smashed into the police chief from Clifton’s car. The police officers, in fear for their lives, fired several shots, struck the individual.”

Multiple officers opened fire, killing the suspect.

Police have released very little information about the suspect’s identity, only saying he is a 52-year-old white male.
