A vehicle collision led officers in McKenzie County in northwest North Dakota to arrest three Mexican nationals for allegedly trafficking 30 grams of methamphetamine.

State radio dispatch received a report of a property crash at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 16 in McKenzie County at 12:39 p.m. Dec. 22.

A four-door sedan failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a tanker truck, according to a statement from the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office.

After the collision, three Hispanic men allegedly exited the vehicle and fled, prompting the sheriff’s department to use a search dog. Agents from U.S. Border Patrol also were contacted.[…]

The third man continued to elude searchers until Dec. 24, when agents of the U.S. Border Patrol notified the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office that the man had been captured near Williston after reports of drug sales in the area.

All three men were living in the United States illegally. One man has since been processed for deportation while the other two men are being held with state and federal charges pending against them.

One of the suspects has been deported 33 times and will face felony immigration violation charges, Bateman wrote.
