The camera was rolling as a son sat on the couch with his mom and dad, pulled an envelope out of his sweatshirt pocket and told them to open it.
A Christmas present “for both of you,” Joseph Riquelme said in a decidedly unexcited tone as his mom began peeling back the flap.
She said with a smile that it must be “a nice present,” likely knowing his intro signaled something special. What could it be? An extravagant gift certificate? Maybe a trip to an exotic locale?
But seconds after Riquelme’s mom started reading the envelope’s contents, her face registered shock — then she started crying.
