A bilboard paid for by Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX) is causing a stir in Richmond, Virginia. The billboard shows an image of identical male twins, with the caption, “Identical twins: One gay. One not. We believe that nobody is born gay.”
The organization behind the billboard describes itself as a “a national non-profit organization committed to helping ex-gays and parents and friends of gays who want help, hope and community.”
The billboard has been met with strong pushback from some in the LGBT community. Beth Panilatis, executive director of Rosby, a gay youths resource group, denounced the “hate” exhibited by the billboard:
“I am shocked and really disappointed that at the end of 2014, we have a billboard in the middle of our city that says that kind of hate,” Panilaitis told WVUE-TV.
But PFOX executive director Regina Griggs defended the controversial billboard, saying that those critical of the message are ignoring the facts:
