In a piece published in The Daily Caller, Myron Ebell, CEI’s Director of Global Warming and International Policy, provided a firsthand account of the opening speech for the Lima Climate Change Conference given by “former star of stage and screen” Al Gore. According to climate-change skeptic Ebell, the performance was unconvincing at best, consisting mostly of an oldies but goodies review of debunked claims.
The Inconvenient Truther started 15 minutes late due to low turnout, spoke to a half-empty room, and spent most of the time rehashing and reframing discredited stats and apocalyptic predictions from his film, including the hockey stick chart and his heavily mocked forecast of a submerged Manhattan.

CONDEMNING his own nation while hailing Australia for acting on climate change, Al Gore received a rock-star reception as he delivering an impassioned plea for a breakthrough to the Bali talks.
Introduced as “fresh from receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Academy Award winner, former vice-president, senator and congressman and climate change’s single most effective messenger to the world,” Mr Gore received the first of several standing ovations.
The room was packed with more than 2000 participants, who stood, cheered and strained to take photographs. Hundreds more gathered around television screens throughout the venue.
