Protesters are plotting a “Royal Shutdown” at the Barclays Center on Monday night while Prince William and Duchess Kate attend their first NBA basketball game.
At 7:30 p.m., the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will watch LeBron James and his Cavaliers take on the hometown Brooklyn Nets — but it could be marred by civil unrest as agitators plan to meet outside the arena an hour before tipoff.
Twitter hashtags reading “Shut it Down” and “RoyalShutdown” have been attached to a memo and distributed through social media by user Justice League NYC, a group that describes themselves as a social initiativeof Harry Belafonte’s “Gathering for Justice” organization.
People quickly rallied around the planned protest and began spreading the message online.
“Yes, it’s cold. That doesn’t halt the fight for freedom. There’s strength in # s so join @NYjusticeleague tonite. Barclay’s #RoyalShutDown,” tweeted @FeministaJones.
