 Weekly has complied the most racist kids’ story characters ever and, wouldn’t you know it, the Oompa-Loompas from Charley and the Chocolate Factory made the list.

I know what you’re thinking: Racist against who? Small orange people with green hair and white eyebrows? Actually, EW is referring to the original 1964 book:

Most people now know Oompa-Loompas as orange-skinned little people, but in Roald Dahl’s original book, they’re depicted as black-skinned pygmies from Africa—a detail Dahl altered in later revisions of the book once he realized that a white man (Willy Wonka) “employing” a group of people straight from Africa—who also resembled the pickaninny caricature—sounded an awful lot like slavery.
