Several congressmembers held a press conference this afternoon reacting to no indictment in the case of Eric Garner. Charlie Rangel was one of them, and not only did he express his distress with the outcome, he lamented what this says about issues of race in the United States.
For one thing, Rangel said, having a black president has not “resolved the problem at all.” He continued on to say, “Minorities being elected to local, state, and federal offices is not a resolution of the problem.”
And most damning of all, Rangel said, “The color of one’s skin depends on how their future lives are going to be or whether or not they’re going to live at all.”
