For some time now, one of the biggest frustrations within conservative new media has been its tendency to stay within a “bubble”, consisting of just reaching fellow Republicans but failing to break through to those who may not be politically inclined. While online stories continue to break that are damning to Democrats and reach a national audience when the likes of Fox News run with them, frustration mounted as online sites such as Buzzfeed and Upworthy — both considered to have a heavy liberal bend — mastered the art of reaching audiences outside of the political realm.

This changed with the creation of the center-right Independent Journal Review. Opportunity Lives reached out to IJReview to get a pulse on how they defied the norm and broke down the barrier that has long been a burden to conservative new media outlets in just two years.

Just how did it all begin? Kyle Becker, Managing Editor at IJReview, told us it all started back in 2012 with the idea of maximizing social media as a tool — an aspect that propels the above mentioned Buzzfeed and Upworthy and numerous other websites.
