(JPost) — Two men who allegedly plotted to attack a Manhattan synagogue were arrested on Thursday in New York City.

Law enforcement officials said this was the 13th such plot that was prevented in the city since September 11, ABC News reported.

The men were nabbed last night in Midtown Manhattan as part of a police operation that began prior to Osama bin Laden’s killing, and was not connected to any retaliatory plan, sources quoted by ABC News said.

While the suspects planned to attack a synagogue in the city, they did not specify which synagogue had been targeted.

The suspects were expected to appear in court today, and will be charged under New York state’s anti-terror laws.

According to ABC News, one of the suspects was a Muslim and had already obtained some weapons including pistols and hand grenades.

The man, who is in his 20s, reportedly lives in Queens and was selling drugs in order to purchase the weapons. He’s had previous arrests for drug possession, and said he was drug dealing for jihad, ABC reported quoting sources.
