Oh boy.

President Obama said Sunday the U.S. was not coordinating with Iran in the fight against “our common enemy” in Iraq – the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) – but added that the Iranians had been informed, “don’t mess with us, we’re not here to mess with you.”

Obama also denied having offered Iran a deal linking a nuclear agreement with cooperation against ISIS. He declined to comment on media reports saying he had sent Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei a letter suggesting such linkage.

“We do have a shared enemy in ISIL,” Obama said on CBS “Face the Nation.” “But I’ve been very clear publicly, and privately, we are not connecting in any way the nuclear negotiations from [sic] the issue of ISIL.”

“We are not coordinating with Iran on ISIL,” he said. “There’s some deconflicting, in the sense that, since they have some troops or militias they control in and around Baghdad, we let them know, ‘don’t mess with us, we’re not here to mess with you. We’re focused on our common enemy.’”
