(CNSNews.com) – President Obama met one-on-one with Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen on Monday for the first time since she took the job eleven months ago.
“This was the first opportunity that the president has had to meet one- on-one with Janet Yellen,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters on Monday. “She did, however, participate in a meeting of financial regulators that the president convened at the White House last month, but in terms of a one-on-one meeting, this was the first opportunity that they’ve had to do that since she was confirmed into the position as the chair of the Federal Reserve.”
Yellen, the nation’s top monetary policymaker, was confirmed on Jan. 6, 2014, and she is the first female chair in the Fed’s history.
According to the White House, Monday’s meeting covered “the state of the economy, financial reform, and other economic issues.” Obama and Yellen “discussed implementation of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act…They also discussed the near and long-term growth outlook, both in the United States and globally.”
