Via CAIR:
Congratulations to all the new and returning Montgomery County Public Schools’ students and staff on the new academic school year! Now that classes are back in full swing, your help is needed.
On November 11, the MCPS Board of Education is expected to vote on the MCPS school calendar for the 2015-16 school year. Montgomery County Muslims have been requesting for over a decade that Eid holidays be recognized on the MCPS school calendar. So far, these efforts have been met with resistance from the MCPS Board of Education in the form of flat-out refusal to accommodate or by placement of unreasonable or unfair demands.
Take action today by adding your voice to the growing chorus of those demanding equal and fair treatment for Montgomery County Muslim students.
In 2015, Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha are projected to both fall on the same date: Wednesday, September 23rd. Montgomery County Public Schools will be closed in observance of Yom Kippur.
We ask you to contact the Board of Education and politely but firmly urge them – in the interests of fairness and equality – to also recognize schools closing on this date in observance of Eid al-Adha.
