Less than a week ago Martin Couture-Rouleau armed with only a motor vehicle aimed it at two Canadian soldiers and ran them down with it in an attempt to kill both of them.
Martin Couture-Rouleau is not a typical Canadian or a typical French Canadian (if such a thing exists). Martin Couture-Rouleau was radicalized rapidly and viciously against his countrymen to believe that the Islamic State has right to destroy them.
For nearly a year Couture-Rouleau was known to Canada’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police (“RCMP”) and for nearly year they did virtually nothing. In fact, the steps the RCMP took best be described as politically correct bureaucratic dreck.
Their efforts centered around talking it out with Couture-Rouleau and his Imam. Attempting to dissuade the 25 year old Canadian of extremism. Their focus centered around hugging it out, talking to him and trying to convince him the Islamic State and radical Islam did not have his best interest at heart and ultimately a path down radical Islam would mean only death for him and shame. Not virgins and fame. In Canada it seems state security is done with tea and poutine, not surveillance and incarceration.
Rather than detain Couture-Rouleau or monitor him the way you would a terrorist in even the United Kingdom Canada’s RCMP decided to simply avoid violating any of his pre-supposed rights while Couture-Rouleau descended further into Islamist thinking and making statements about killing Canadian troops, citizens and bringing about an end to Canada.
For nearly a decade, Canada has scolded the United States on the way it handles domestic security. In a week’s time Canada has come to realize a very shocking truth that is evident to everyone else. The world is a very dangerous place and people want to kill you. It’s nice to break bread with your enemies both foreign and domestic like Jesus suggested – but every once in a while you have to break some skulls too.
Sorry about the terrorism, Canada, but welcome to the real Earth. We’ve been waiting for you to join us for so long.
