Shootings across the city have left one man dead and at least five others injured, including a 14-year-old boy, since Thursday afternoon, police said.
Most recently about 8:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 68th Street, a 28-year-old man was standing outside when an unknown gunman approached and fired shot, hitting him in the back, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic.
The 28-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Sedevic said. Area South detectives are investigating the shooting, which happened in the city’s Grand Crossing neighborhood.
Earlier, about 3:30 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in Portage Park on the Northwest Side, police said.
