A recent Saturday Night Live sketch stooped as low as their current ratings by mocking the style of a Christian charity fund that asks for donations “as little as a cup of coffee” to help children in third world countries.
“How you gonna save our lives with only 39 cents?” a villager played by a cast member asks. And that is pretty much the set up for the entire sketch.
Bill Hader, dressed like ChildFund’s long-time spokesman Alan Sader, mimics the late-night commercial asking for monetary support to cover food, water, and medicine for impoverished children. Hader’s character is asking for just 39 cents, offending the nearby villagers who wonder why he is pitching such a low amount. “Ask for more,” one whispers on camera. “Why you starting so low?”
