As family and friends of Cameron Tillman, 14, prepared to lay the teen to rest, Saturday, the investigation into the deadly deputy-involved shooting is ongoing.

Louisiana State Police continues to lead the investigation, while the FBI is “closely monitoring” the situation and if necessary is prepared to assist.

The president of the Terrebonne Parish chapter of the NAACP told WDSU he contacted the FBI shortly after the incident to make them aware of the tragic shooting.[…]

On Tuesday evening, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said his office was contacted by residents on Kirkglen Loop reporting a group of armed teens entering an abandoned house on the street. When deputies arrived to investigate, Larpenter said, one of the deputies knocked on the door of the home. He said a short time late Tillman flung open the door armed with what was later identified as a BB gun. Fearing for his life, the deputy shot the teen four times. He was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Friends of the Ellender High School freshmen were back at the house Friday, where a makeshift memorial in tribute to the teen is growing by the day.
