A man was shot and killed by Chicago Police Tuesday night in the Far South Side Riverdale neighborhood.
Calumet District officers responding to a tip about an armed bicyclist in the area saw a male riding a bicycle in the 13300 block of South Forestville about 9:35 p.m., according to a statement from police News Affairs.
The officers approached him to conduct a field interview, at which point he reached into his waistband and pulled out a semiautomatic handgun, police said.
Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said the officers were in an unmarked tactical car on a gang mission in the area when they saw the 21-year-old man riding a bicycle. The man produced the gun after officers shone the car’s spotlight on the man to get his attention and stop him for questioning, according to Camden.
