It has been revealed by the Chicago Sun-Times that Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis makes over $200,000 per year and owns multiple homes, in stark contrast to her outspoken tirades against the wealthy.
A frequent target of her ire is one of her own, Democrat Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The Sun-Times report states that she has labeled Emanuel “Mayor 1%” and a “tool of corporate Chicago.” Meanwhile, she is happy to consider herself “not egotistical or rich.”
However, records show that she earns at least $200,000 per year from two different union contracts: $136,890 from her CTU gig and an additional $64,157 for serving as executive vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers. Both jobs include nearly $35,000 extra in combined “nontaxable benefits” and “other compensation.” […]
And let’s not forget about those houses! The report also reveals that she owns three homes, including a condo in Hawaii, where she vacations yearly, another vacation home in an upscale neighborhood of southwestern Michigan (oddly enough, where Emanuel has a second home), and her residence with her husband in Chicago, valued at $405,000.
