The weekend was an especially bloody one in New Orleans, as six shootings across the city killed five and wounded 11, including two toddlers. One of the deaths was a suicide, in which police said a man killed himself after shooting his friend and refusing to exit his hotel room at the Westin in the French Quarter, prompting an hours-long standoff with the NOPD’s SWAT team.

2 men wounded in eastern New Orleans

According to police, the violence began around 5 p.m. Friday, when a drive-by shooting wounded two men, ages 23 and 66, who were standing in the 4200 block of Dale Street in eastern New Orleans.

2 men shot dead on I-10

Two men were shot dead around 3:25 a.m. Saturday while riding in a tan Toyota Corolla on Interstate-10 eastbound, near Crowder Boulevard, in eastern New Orleans. Police did not provide the victims’ ages.

Resident shot while inside Gentilly home

A 25-year-old man was sitting in the front room of his Gentilly house around 11:10 p.m. Saturday night, when he heard gunshots. He ran to the rear of the house, in the 2400 block of Lavender Street, and realized a bullet struck him in the hand. An ambulance transported him to a hospital in stable condition, police said.
