When beating victim Steve Utash thinks about the outpouring of support he received in the weeks after he was brutally attacked by a mob of people in April, it brings him to tears. He said the support, which came from all over the world, aided in his recovery.

“All were raising me above the wrong that was done to me,” he wrote. “When the whole world is on your side, it’s a great feeling.”

Now, nearly four months after the attack, Utash is eager to return to work and normalcy, according to a letter posted online Tuesday night. The letter marks the first time Utash has directly addressed the public.

Utash’s daughter, Mandi Emerick, posted the letter on the fundraiser website and said her dad wrote it Sunday and wanted her to share it with the public.

Utash said he returned to work on Monday after receiving clearance from doctors.

“It’s finally here, tomorrow I will finally get my life back,” Utash wrote. “I have no damage to my mind and body, I am just fine.”

Utash took the opportunity to thank the thousands of people who contributed more than 4,600 donations, totaling more than $188,000.

“Well I just have to thank all the thousands of people from all over the world that gave me their love and support with their words and their donations,” he said. “When I think of everyone that was there for me, it brings me to tears to feel what I only can describe as love from strangers. I really don’t know how to write my feelings in words to show what all of you people have made me feel, which was important, and special. I have never felt so connected to so many people.”

Utash also took the opportunity to address what happened the day he accidentally hit a 10-year-old boy who darted off a curb into traffic.

“My side is that I stopped to help the kid that ran into the side of my truck, he would have died if I hit him with the front,” Utash said. “We both have a lot to be thankful for.”
