Global warming strikes again.

What it is:
We will definitely see a drastic cool-down in our temperatures next week. Mainly on Tuesday where temperatures will be close to 20 degrees below average. While the numbers may not be all that common for July, the actual event is. The jet stream that is the steering current that generally runs west to east over the Great Lakes is going to take a giant dip southward. As it does, cooler air will fill in from Canada.
What it isn’t:
The energy that is bottled up at the poles very rarely migrates out of the polar laditudes (60° N/S). The polar vortex was basically a direct conduit of that bitterly cold air flowing straight through Canada and into the US.

This brief cold snap is what we can call a pocket of colder air that has broken off from the northern circulation. It will quickly enter the normal mid-latitude jet stream and be assimilated with the rest of the weather that will then move to the east coast and eventually out over the Atlantic.
“It’s just a pattern we’ve been in since the winter,” Kurimski said.
There’s a chance records could be broken as the cooler weather arrives next week. Wednesday’s record for low maximum temperatures is 70, and the forecast looks to be quite close to that, Kurimski said.
Ahead of the cool down, he said rain showers could begin to arrive Saturday afternoon and persist into Sunday.
“If you want to enjoy the weekend, I would say get out there bright and early on Saturday,” he said.
Chances of rain are low into next week, and the Weather Channel predicts a warm-up in time for the following weekend.
