At least five people were killed and another 11 were wounded in overnight gun violence in Chicago, bringing to more than 50 the number of people shot in the city over the holiday weekend so far, according to police.

Five of the people were shot by police over 36 hours, one of them a 16-year-old boy who was killed as he hid under a car in an alley in Gresham Saturday night, according to authorities.

Police said the boy was holding a gun, and that officers also recovered guns in three of the other shootings. In the fifth incident, a man in Rogers Park was killed after he claimed to have a gun but did not, according to authorities.
